Member Alex in January 2024 Rusalka sailed from Hobart to Bluff at the very bottom of New Zealand. There, the weather prevented any further progress to New Zealand's Subantarctic Islands. So Rusalka sailed to Picton where it waited until November 2024 to make a second attempt. This time it successfully sailed to the Auckland Islands at 50 degrees south. Two weeks were spent exploring coves and bays, seeing the unique flora and fauna, experiencing the raw weather and immersing in the beauty of the place.

After starting his sailing life cruising on yachts, Geoff decided 10 years ago to try a simpler approach to cruising, and downsized to a 13'2" called Dinghy Spart. He has cruised around Tasmania and across Bass Strait in Dinghy Spart, amongst many other smaller voyages. Geoff will discuss his voyages and describe the challenges of dinghy cruising, as well as the advantages and lessons he has learned along the way.

Currently on her 5th solo circumnavigation around the globe and exploring Tasmania, this time cruising mode. Jeanne born 17 August 1942 is a British yachtswoman who holds the record as the oldest person (of either sex) to have circumnavigated the world single-handedly, nonstop & unassisted via the Southern Ocean’s Five Southernmost Capes. Also has twice been the only woman to have completed solo global circumnavigations, nonstop, unassisted from North America.
She has been awarded
• the Cruising Club of America's Blue Water Medal,
• the Royal Cruising Club’s Medal for Seamanship,
• the Ocean Cruising Club’s Barton Cup,
• the Cruising Association’s Duchess of Kent Trophy (twice),
• inducted into the Cape Horn Hall of Fame in Les Sables d’Olonne, France, and
• Honorary Member of the OCC and the Royal Lymington Y.C.

Her talk compared the differences in boat set up, navigation and life onboard as a cruiser versus nonstop circumnavigations.

The evening has always been a favourite with members, along with our hosts at Tas Maritime. A good opportunity to put a face to the voices we hear while cruising.

In 2023 member Dorothy Darden and her granddaughter joined a cruise aboard the schooner MAPLE LEAF for two exciting weeks in the islands of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Haida Gwaii, considered the “Galapagos of the north”.

Dorothy and her late husband, Steve received CYCT cruising plaques for their travels around the Pacific, aboard their catamaran, ADAGIO. They had attempted without success, to tour the Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada previously.
