Cruise to Port Esperance for Easter.
Friday, March 29, 2024, 8:00 AM until Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 5:00 PM
The newly opened and very smart Port Esperance Sailing Club is the CYCT destination for the Easter holiday long weekend. Let‘s get away and use this great excuse for the CYCT to cruise down the Channel and anchor off Dover, with the towering and almost symmetrical Adamsons Peak forming a dramatic backdrop, and join in the celebrations planned over the weekend by the welcoming folk of the PESC, and by the CYCT.
Port Esperance Sailing Club is the southernmost yacht club in Australia. It conducts regular dinghy racing and yacht cruising activities as well as sail-training. The Port Esperance SC Regatta is being held over the Easter weekend, and will feature racing for those who may have a need to satisfy a competitive spirit. See the PESC Notice of Race if you are interested, at https://pesc.com.au/regatta-2024/
On the Friday afternoon, after cruising down the Channel and throwing out the pick, 4pm BYO BBQ at Tolly and Josephine‘s.BYO BBQ with watery views out to the islands (Faith, Hope and Charity) and beyond to Esperance Point. BYO BBQ food, drinks, plates, cutlery, chairs, anything you need to be comfortable and relaxed, because comfort and relaxation with friends is what this time is all about. Tolly will provide the BBQ for us to use. Say, from 4pm‘ish.78 Pottery Road Dover 7117 (at the southern end of Hopetoun Beach)
On Saturday and Sunday there is plenty of opportunity to engage in inpromptu social events with other CYCT friends, and the PESC will be open both days for us to enjoy their friendly hospitality, amenities and company. The Club will be open all weekend with coffee/tea and snacks available during the day, and the PESC Bar will be open from 3pm Saturday and Sunday.. For those wishing to explore, the Dover township is a picturesque place to amble about, whether in the town itself, or along the beautiful sandy beaches.

The iron Pot Lighthouse, or more formally the Derwent Light has been part of the Port of Hobart for 192 years. Suzanne has made an extensive study of its history and written a book on the topic. It is the oldest existing lighthouse tower in Australia.

Standing at the entrance to the Derwent, it marks the start of the Port of Hobart and is a welcome sight to yachtsmen in the Sydney to Hobart race. Its history is also a history of the development of the maritime industry and the water-based activities of Tasmania.

Rob and Tricia will talk about their experience and why they participate in yachting rallies. Will touch on challenges of looking for and purchasing a yacht in France. The yacht had to be set up for blue water cruising with the associated safety requirements to participate in blue water rallies. The ARC+ (Atlantic Rally Crossing Plus) took them across the Atlantic, where they joined the WARC (World Atlantic Rally Crossing) leaving from The Caribbean, across the Caribbean Sea stopping in Columbia and the San Blas Archipelago on the way to Panama, traversing The Canal. Now back in Tasmania well share their latest experiences of circumnavigating Tasmania on the combined clubs RYCT/GYC VDL rally.
